New Castle Fire District No. 1 Modernization Project Update Chappaqua, NY
Key Updates
Progress and Coordination • Excavation equipment has been mobilized and soil removal is underway. • Block work is in progress in preparation for the precast mezzanine installation. • A crane and steel installation crew will begin installing the precast mezzanine deck, which is expected to take approximately two days. • Following the mezzanine installation, steel erection activities will continue over several working days, focusing on setting the remaining structural steel elements. • Once the crane demobilizes, crews will continue to: o Complete all steel connections o Install remaining metal decking o Verify alignment and level of all structural members
Steel Installation Structural steel erection is progressing steadily. Current work is concentrated on the west side of the building, including: • Bolted connections between beams and columns • Installation of metal decking at the second floor and roof • Straightening and leveling of steel framing components
Masonry crews will be off the jobsite while structural steel crews resume steel work and install the precast mezzanine this week. It is expected that the crane will likely complete all remaining steel work by the end of the week of June 9.
Masonry Work Block work continues in the southwest portion of the building, including the elevator, fill station, and shower area, to support the upcoming precast work. Additionally, work is ongoing in the elevator lobby area, unisex toilets, hydration room, and the standby room.
Site Work Crews have completed backfilling the atrium foundation where electrical conduits for the future generator connection were previously installed.
Work is progressing along the future driveway to Memorial Drive in preparation for the sand filter F-3-A installation. • The smaller sand filter (F-3-A) is scheduled to be delivered and installed tomorrow. • The underground detention system F-2 is expected to be delivered the following week.
Installation schedules for these systems are pending. Coordination with inspectors, including potential oversight by the Town and JMC, will be addressed once the installation dates are confirmed.
Crane Operations The mobile crane is onsite to set the precast mezzanine deck and resume structural steel erection. For safety reasons, no trades will be allowed to work within the swing radius of the crane during these operations.
Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection (MEPFP) Coordination Work continues on the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems. Crews are roughing in piping, conduit, and electrical wiring throughout the newly enclosed areas. Trade coordination is ongoing to keep progress aligned with the construction schedule.
Access and Parking • No construction-related parking is permitted on Elm Street or Memorial Drive. • All deliveries must enter the site via King Street. • Any necessary access via Memorial Drive will be coordinated and communicated in advance.
Environmental Safety Measures Silt fences and silt baskets remain in place to manage erosion and sediment control. These systems are monitored regularly to ensure compliance with environmental standards.
Community Engagement The Fire District encourages residents to stay informed through the District’s website and community bulletins. Project updates will continue to highlight major milestones, schedule adjustments, and any anticipated traffic impacts. Community feedback is always welcome.
