New Castle Fire District No. 1 Modernization Project Update: Excavation, Formwork, Concrete Pouring Underway
Chappaqua, NY

The New Castle Fire District No. 1 Modernization Project continues to make substantial progress, with essential construction activities advancing as planned.

Key Updates Include:

Excavation Work:

•Excavation has been completed along the southwest section of the site, with ongoing work on the western portion to prepare for footing and foundation installation.

•Excavation on the north side continues to address water seepage concerns, with efforts underway to remove water earlier than anticipated to mitigate the impact of recent rainfall. Soil hauling and stone placement will proceed in areas affected by water seepage.

Concrete Pouring and Foundation Work:

•On Monday, two trucks of concrete were poured for the east foundation.

•The south foundation has been successfully excavated, and four spread footings have been completed for the future apparatus bay.

•Waterproofing has been applied to the west retaining wall and south foundation walls to protect the structures from water infiltration.

•The formwork for the walls that were poured has been removed as of January 28, and the site is being cleaned up from the previous concrete operations. Formwork for the east walls is currently underway, along with rebar placement. Concrete work is progressing with the formation of a retaining wall along the west side of the new addition.

Site Work and Backfilling:

•We are continuing the installation of the perimeter footing drain on the north side of the site, while the work on the west side has been completed.

•The site contractor will focus on ongoing site backfilling and excavation in preparation for the steel contractors to begin their work.

Cold Weather Plan:

•A cold weather plan remains in place to ensure that construction work, including concrete pouring, continues without delays despite adverse weather conditions.

Environmental Safety Measures:

•Silt fences have been installed to manage erosion and runoff, while silt baskets are in place to capture sediment and protect nearby stormwater systems. A tracking pad will be set up at the site entrance to prevent soil from being carried onto adjacent roads.
