New Castle Fire District No. 1 Modernization Project Update

Key Updates

Progress and Coordination
• Crews continue working on structural steel erection.
• Metal decking and stud installation are underway.
o A third-party engineering firm will be onsite to inspect the stud work.
• Safety cabling installation has begun preparing for the second-floor concrete pour.
• Concrete crews are scheduled to return on Friday, July 11, to begin work on the second-floor deck.
• In addition to the deck work, concrete activities will include:
o Pouring the southwest planters
o Placing the retaining wall along the driveway to Memorial Drive
o Pouring the 2” topping slab on the mezzanine
• Turnover of the second-floor deck is scheduled for Monday, July 8, in preparation for concrete work.

Excavation Activities
Excavation crews are scheduled to remobilize on Tuesday, July 8. Planned tasks include:
• Retaining Wall ‘B’ Excavation: expected to take 0.5–1 day.
• Planter Wall #2: Finish excavation; potential gas line conflict remains under review.
• Under-Slab Trenching:
o For three trench drains
o For the water fill line
• Backfill and Compaction: Two remaining pits at the northwest area, pending readiness for structural fill.
• Rigid Insulation (2" XPS, R-10)
• Existing Sanitary Sewer Line Repairs
• Oil-Water Separator: Installation to begin upon delivery of precast unit to site.
• Drainage Structures: Awaiting precast structure delivery from supplier; coordination ongoing.
• Precast Sand Filter TD C-2-1: Scheduled for delivery; installation pending clearance of adjacent masonry activities.
• Water Quality Structures (3 total): These are long-lead items (4–6 weeks).

Masonry & Framing
• Masonry crews are actively working in the southwest quadrant of the building.
• Masonry work resumed on June 26 in the elevator lobby, corridor, unisex toilets, and standby room. This work will continue throughout the building into August.
• Elevator shaft construction continues to progress.
• Exterior block work has begun at the west perimeter of the mezzanine.
• Mechanical sleeves for piping systems were delivered and are being integrated with masonry installations.

MEPFP Coordination
• Mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection trades are working on rough-ins behind masonry walls.
• Work is carefully sequenced to follow the pace of masonry block installation to ensure efficient progress.

Site Work
• Excavation for the southwest planters is complete and formwork has begun, leading into upcoming concrete placement.
• Materials are being moved from the east to the west side of the site to clear space for sewer connection activities.
• Work is ongoing at the future driveway to Memorial Drive, including:
o Installation of sand filter F-3-A
o Preparation and inspection for the underground detention system F-2

Access and Parking
• No construction-related parking is permitted on Elm Street or Memorial Drive.
• All deliveries must enter from King Street.
• Access via Memorial Drive will be scheduled and communicated in advance.

Environmental Safety Measures
• Silt fences and silt baskets remain in place and are regularly inspected for compliance with environmental protection standards.
