| New Castle Fire District No. 1 Modernization Project Update Key Updates – October 27, 2025 Construction Progress Phase One of the project remains on track for substantial completion by March 2026. Coordination between trades continues to ensure all systems and pours are scheduled efficiently ahead of colder weather. Plumbing & Mechanical The backflow preventers for the project have been approved — an important step for the plumbing systems. The plumber will coordinate installation of the backflow device in the existing firehouse. The domestic water heater has been set in the mezzanine by the mechanical team. Slab on Grade Preparation Concrete crews and site coordination meetings continue to focus on slab-on-grade pour sequencing. The plan is to pour the west side of the apparatus bay — in two portions — beginning this Friday, October 31, pending inspector coordination and confirmation. The radiant heating installation is scheduled to be completed by Thursday, October 30, with the system to be pressure-tested immediately after to ensure there are no leaks or damage. This progress will allow the first west-side slab pour to proceed on schedule. The second west-side pour is targeted for the first week of November, followed by the east-side pour. The apparatus bay slab will be poured last, once the trench drain sediment catch basins arrive on-site (expected within 2–3 weeks). This delivery timeframe aligns closely with the planned schedule for the final pour. Structural & Trade Coordination Once the east and west slab-on-grade areas are completed, the stair fabricators will begin installation of the four stairways, anticipated during the first week of November. These slab pours will also enable the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection trades to begin overhead work on the ground floor, including ductwork, hydronic piping, plumbing rough-ins, and sprinkler systems. Roofing Shingle installation is complete across the main and lower roof areas. The flat roof adjacent to the existing firehouse remains pending final installation. The general contractor is confirming the schedule for the roofing crew’s return to complete this section. Roof penetrations for mechanical and plumbing systems are being coordinated and marked for vent piping, kitchen exhaust, mechanical piping, and HVAC curbs. Four of the five roof drains have been installed, with the final drain scheduled for completion this week. Utility & Coordination Notes Access and Parking Environmental Safety Measures: Silt fences and silt baskets remain in place and are regularly inspected for compliance with environmental protection standards.
