There are five (5) fire commissioners at any given time, on an overlapping term schedule so that one seat comes up each year.
A fire commissioner must be a U.S. citizen, be a resident of the fire district, and have never been convicted of arson in any degree.
Fire commissioner elections must be held on the second Tuesday of December according to New York State law. The polls must remain open at minimum from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
To vote in fire commissioners elections, a person must have been a resident of the fire district for at least 30 days and be registered to vote at their in-district address.
