| New Castle Fire District No. 1 Modernization Project Update Chappaqua, NY
Key Updates
Sewer Permit Approved
The Town of New Castle has approved the sewer permit for both the sewer repair points and connection work. The signed permit has been received, and scheduling is underway for the site contractor to mobilize and perform the necessary work.
Updated Schedule
Phase 1 of the firehouse is now scheduled to reach substantial completion in March 2026. The construction manager is currently finalizing logistics for Phase 2. A layout meeting is being coordinated to identify the demolition wall location in the existing apparatus bay, and the project team will be notified when this is scheduled.
Construction Progress
Structural steel framing and metal decking work are ongoing. Preparations continue for the second-floor deck concrete pour and additional at-grade concrete work. Installation of the steel landing deck in the S04 stair enclosure is also underway.
Interior Work
• Layout and installation of sheetrock wall framing on the second floor continues. Steel plates are being installed at the mezzanine exterior to support the topping slab pour and allow framing to proceed. A pressure test of the sewer piping for the apparatus bay trench drains is scheduled, to be followed by backfilling. • The interior prep team is scheduled to mobilize the last week of August to begin ground-level room leveling in preparation for vapor barrier and MEP installations, as more areas become available.
Electrical & Utility Coordination
• Con Edison completed their electrical switchover work, transferring service from the old utility pole to the new one on King Street. • The electrical contractor is planning to install a new utility pole on the firehouse property, near the future curb location at the King Street entrance, Thursday or Friday. Once that work is complete, Con Edison will connect service by running wires from their King Street pole to the new on-site pole. • Confirmation is pending regarding the duration of work and whether temporary access restrictions at the King Street entrance will be necessary. Updates will be shared with the team when available.
Masonry and MEP Progress
• The masonry mockup is completed. • Additional masons are expected to arrive to support progress. • Masonry work continues in the elevator lobby, southwest quadrant, and west perimeter of the mezzanine. • MEP rough-ins continue behind masonry walls in coordination with ongoing blockwork.
Site Work and Coordination
The construction manager is working to schedule the site contractor to return next week to begin:
• Storm and sewer repairs on the north side of the site • Grading work near the storm planter areas
Once a schedule is confirmed, the team, Town officials, and DPW will be notified for inspection coordination.
Outstanding work also includes:
• Backfilling the sewer line in the apparatus bay • Coordinating underground piping and structure installation at the north end after drainage and masonry work are complete
Framing and Labor Coordination
• Additional carpenters have been requested to maintain progress on second-floor framing. • The construction team continues working to increase masonry labor on site to expedite completion of blockwork necessary for roof truss installation and building enclosure. Labor remains in high demand across projects due to peak-season scheduling.
Access and Parking
• No construction-related parking is permitted on Elm Street or Memorial Drive. • All deliveries must enter from King Street. • Access via Memorial Drive will be scheduled and communicated in advance.
Environmental Safety Measures:
Silt fences and silt baskets remain in place and are regularly inspected for compliance with environmental protection standards.
