| New Castle Fire District No. 1 Modernization Project Update Chappaqua, NY December 17, 2025
Project Overview The modernization project continues to progress as crews work both inside and outside the building as colder weather approaches. Phase One remains scheduled for substantial completion in April 2026. Additional schedule and sequencing information will be shared as it becomes available.
Exterior & Structural Work Work continues around the adjacent firehouse vestibule. Carpentry work is underway on the protective cricket covering the opening created for demolition activities. Framing of temporary interior walls is anticipated to begin mid to late this week. During the week of December 22, selective block removal is planned to commence. Electrical and technology coordination teams are aware of and prepared for this upcoming work. Preparatory work for the new apparatus bay continues. Additional information regarding concrete placement and related inspections will be provided in a future update.
Interior Work Drywall installation, first-floor framing, and interior finishing continue to move forward. Work around windows and doors is ongoing, and once scaffolding adjustments are complete, window installation will advance so the building can be fully enclosed. Mechanical and electrical rooms continue to take shape, and work in vestibule areas is nearing completion.
Mechanical & Fire Protection Ductwork installation is progressing throughout the building. Fire sprinkler piping installation has resumed on both the mezzanine and ground floor. Some mechanical work has experienced minor delays due to labor availability. The project team continues to coordinate staffing and sequencing, and further updates will be provided as schedules are confirmed.
Stairs & Building Systems The main stair to the second floor is nearing completion, with most treads and risers installed. Coordination continues regarding the vehicle exhaust capture system, with equipment locations being finalized in collaboration with the District and design team.
Site Work & King Street Coordination Project representatives have met with Town officials to review roadway and utility-related items identified during excavation, including valves, disconnect work, and inlets. The water shutdown associated with King Street work will not occur until the related change order is approved. Once approval is granted, neighbors will be notified in advance. The Fire District will provide general notice, and the Town of New Castle will issue specific information regarding timing and anticipated impacts related to the water shutdown.
The goal is to complete this work as soon as practicable following approval, while coordinating around any holiday-related roadway or utility restrictions.
Holiday Schedule A two-week lookahead schedule and holiday staffing plans have been circulated. The site is expected to remain generally open during the holiday period, with the exception of December 25 and January 1.
Access and Parking • No construction-related parking is permitted on Elm Street or Memorial Drive. • All deliveries must enter from King Street. • Access via Memorial Drive will be scheduled and communicated in advance.
