he New Castle Fire District No. 1 is a political subdivision of the State. A Board of five Fire Commissioners governs the District. Residents of the Fire District elect Fire Commissioners. Each Commissioner is elected to a five-year term. Certain situations may occur where the Board can appoint an individual to fill a vacated position. Fire District Elections are held on the second Tuesday of December each year. One Commissioner is elected each year so that there will always be experienced Commissioners on the Board. The Fire District has a myriad of statutory responsibilities including the levying of taxes for the purpose of providing fire protection for the residents of the District. The Fire District budget is used to provide the Chappaqua Fire Department the funding necessary for equipment, apparatus, training, day-to-day operations, maintenance and repair of District facilities, amongst other specialty matters.

New York, February 13, 2026 -- Moody's Ratings (Moody's) has confirmed New Castle Fire District No.1, NY's Aa1 issuer and general obligation limited tax (GOLT) bond ratings. This action concludes a review for possible downgrade that was initiated on December 9th, 2025, in conjunction with the release of the US Special Purpose Districts methodology. The sand filter structure adjacent to the building was delivered and partially installed today. Installation will be completed tomorrow, with the Town scheduled to inspect the installation tomorrow afternoon. Work continues on the NCFD 1 Chappaqua Firehouse Extension despite cold, snowy conditions. A total of 32 workers and visitors were on site this week. Town of New Castle and Tectonic Engineering inspections were completed and approved for storm piping, soil compaction, and initial kitchen gas piping / hood installation. The modernization project continues to progress as crews work both inside and outside the building. This week, the carpenters are installing windows in the vestibule area and are continuing to install sheetrock on the 2nd floor.
